Romantic symbolism – After Caspar David Friedrich

The magical from the mundane. I managed to get a variety of studies from this particular muddy puddle in a fallow field near Ryton Rugby Club. Caspar David Friedrich was a 19th-century romantic painter most famous for his painting Wanderer above the Sea of Fog  but is also renowned for his allegorical landscapes. This study is redolent of his gothic landscapes with Christian symbolism.
